Enkitta Mothathe: Brush with fame. That’s all we perhaps get to describe our feelings about a film these days, or the hullaballoo surrounding the first- day- first- show frenzy, in this age of the Internet. But back in 1. 98. Nagercoil and Tirunvelveli, there were many more real characters hanging outside theatres awaiting, with bated breath, the release of their favourite stars. Rajinikanth and Kamal were their screen idols, and Manidhan and Nayagan were what they lived for. It was their way of life. Atleast that was what Ravi (Natraj) and Nallaperumal (Rajaji), painters/cut- out artists who’re the best of friends but fans of rival actors, lived for. After a brief period in Nagercoil, they settle in Tirunelveli, the land that they believe would give them meaning to life. It does. With grand, big theatres and a culture that celebrates cinema like none other, Tirunelveli not only gives them a footing in their professional lives but also personal dreams. They find love here. They find success here. Enkitta Mothathe. Cast: Natraj, Rajaji, Radha Ravi, Sanchita Shetty, Parvathy Nair. Storyline: A cut- out artist dreams of making it big, but a theatre owner with political aspirations has other plans. Till they get embroiled in a political battle. That happens because of Mandhramoorthy (Radharavi), a theatre owner with ambitious dreams that could possibly be spoilt because of the rise of Ravi, by then the head of Rajini fans association in the area and a key person in pre- release celebration. Director Ramu Chellappa taps into that very Tamilian psyche, the one that values cinema and its stars as much as dear life, and does that with utmost sincerity. With a gritty tale of friendship and revenge woven in, Enkitta Mothathe rises above the ordinary in almost every frame. So does Natraj (or Natty). There’s a stride in his step in the fight scenes and fierce determination in his eyes during dialogue delivery. He’s perfect as Ravi. I particularly enjoyed that one grand face- off sequence he has with Radharavi inside a theatre. Sweet irony, indeed. Pacing is never an issue during the talkie portions but the songs are. Music by Natajaran Sankaran is functional but their placement isn’t – they’re like speedbreakers in an otherwise fast film. Sanchita Shetty and Parvathy Nair have decent screen presence in their roles, as does Rajaji as Natra’s friend. It helps that they have razor- sharp dialogues to deliver and operate under some wonderfully- lit places captured by M. C. Ganesh Chandra’s camera. The details in the frame go with the time period that the film is set in – a key requisite in such scripts. Enkitta Mothathe can hope to reach for the stars. Free Tamil Video songs Download.
